Statement of intent

Coursework - Statement of intent  How do you intend to use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning and meet the requirements of your chosen brief? My intentions for my coursework, I chose brief 3 where I will create a front cover and a contents page for two editions of an entertainment magazine called 'Blair' founded by Hearst UK. I purposely named it this as it links to the TV show ‘Gossip Girl’ that feeds off drama and up to date news. In addition, I will also create a website for the magazine where it will reach e-media consumers. To reach the requirements, I researched about the genre of entertainment, other competitors such as Wonderland, People and Entertainment magazine to develop an understanding on how I want my potential magazine layout to be like. This includes the design, photos and representation of the magazine.  For my first edition of the magazine I will feature a female artist who is releasing a new album with a close up ...

NEA Planning Part 5 - Casting

Image
NEA Planning Part 5 - Casting Introduction For this task I must clarify the models I will be working with for my magazine and why they are suitable. Conclusion This task made me understand further into why I chose my models and what I want them to portray and reflect. For example, I want both models to represent freedom and positivity as it will inspire the target audience to do the same as the magazine is going to be high end one so it will be influential. This includes the models facial expressions and makeup being natural.

NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule

Image
NEA Planning Part 6 - Schedule Introduction  For this task I need to schedule my time management and steps while creating my magazine. This will keep myself organised and reminded in what I need to do next. Conclusion Overall, this task has helped me a out massively with becoming a lot more organised with balancing out the tasks within this process. For example, having the photoshoot scheduled for a specific date at the beginning makes the process of actually making the magazine a to easier.

NEA Planning Part 4 - Location information

Image
NEA Planning Part 4 - Location information Introduction  In this task for planning I chose my shooting location. This will give me an insight to the risks and safety hazards that come with the location. Conclusion Overall, this task made me more aware of potential hazards in my shooting location. For example, making sure wires and chairs are away and kept neat will prevent a accident from occurring.

NEA Planning Part 3 - Product profile

NEA Planning Part 3 - Product profile Introduction In this part of planning, I will create a range of sketch designs on my potential magazine (two front covers and two content pages). By doing this, this will give me many ideas and also responses as I will receive feedback on my designs. Task  https://prezi.com/view/JDSSu7oz9T1mCIyjKs2d/ Conclusion This task helped me give me an outlook and vision on how I want my magazine to look like. It also gave me a reminder of all the codes and conventions to include. For example, in my front cover, I added a subscribe option to lean towards the e-media industry as society is consuming less print. So, when I got a comment back when showing my magazine this gave me a different perspective as it added to my front cover. I enjoyed being able to understand why I decided to use all my codes and conventions. For example, looking at why I used a mid shot for my front cover it carried more purpose to it.

NEA Planning Part 2 - Mood board

NEA Planning Part 2 - Mood board Introduction  For this task I researched further into the design and mise en scenes I would like to to use in my magazine. To do this I will create mood boards on the camera shots, font, fashiona nd makeup I would like to use for the magazine Here is my link to my research: https://prezi.com/view/fPgXGMDFAPJ8PpPUlWXp/ Conclusion  I found this task very helpful as it gave me inspirational and let me understand the purpose I want my entertainment to represent. This is because I look at a variety of different niche magazines, different model poses and shots and the type of colour scheme I intend to use.

NEA Planning Part 1 - Audience profile - Questionnaire

NEA Planning Part 1 - Audience profile Introduction  For my first part of planning I made a survey on SurveyMonkey to get some feedback on peoples views on magazines and what they engage the most in the entertainment genre. This will help narrow things done for me as it makes it easier and clearer in what kind of magazine I want to produce and the type of codes and conventions I should include.  Task  Here is my link to my survey questionnaire https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SJFDQ93 Results Here is my link to my surveys results. 12 people participated and this was my findings: https://www.surveymonkey.com/analyze/cKcyw7RuWVzjX_2FzEakoyzTKvdJLi03FeidRYt_2FGv_2F_2BM_3D?tab_clicked=1 Here is my link to my presentation to my analyse of my results.  https://prezi.com/view/MJUatWShjNvAbD8QgNsE/

NEA Research Part 7 - Producers/Directors Research

NEA Research Part 7 - Producers/Directors Research Introduction In this post I will researching the  practitioners linked to my chosen brief such as the photographers, producers and more. This will give me inspiration by their style and main conventions. So, when I create my work it will reflect a similar style to what is expected in the entertainment magazine genre.  Task Here is my link to my research presentation https://prezi.com/view/JjKeodKbBxN3sv8JLx2v/ Conclusion Overall, researching the different photographers and producers that are involved in the making of entertainment magazines gave me a clearer insight to what is expected in front covers and how to keep the shots interesting. This is because each person that I researched had a initial purpose on what they wanted to present in their work and they do that by being unique and honest with their art. For example, I like how Peter's intention for his photography is to empower women by representing them as ...

NEA Research Part 6 - Institutional Research

NEA Research Part 6 - Institutional Research Introduction In this post I will be engaging in my brief's chosen media institution, Hearst Magazine UK. I will be researching on what kind of business it is, how they make profit, their values and ethos. This will help me further understand what kind of my magazine I want to present and its intentions behind it.  Task Click the link to see my post on my institutional research findings. https://prezi.com/view/HHk9E9i0az7qW2Fjrra0/ Conclusion Overall, this task benefited me in understanding what my potential magazine will present with its purpose and values. This is because for example one of their values includes having trust and breaking new grounds for the company. This means it will give me inspiration to be as engaging and unique with my magazine content as they are with their successful content. Also, as they represent brands such as Womens Health, Real People and more I want my magazine to share the same ...

NEA Research Part 5 - Media Theory research

NEA Research Part 5 - Media Theory research Introduction For this post I will be looking at 2 media products where different media theories have been used to appeal to their target audience. This will help me understand the social issues and messages the magazine institutions are trying to communicate to society. Task  Here is my presentation link  https://prezi.com/view/vElnXxxNNGjpPBAtIgI4/ Conclusion Overall, this task helped me further explore the creativity and deeper processing thought into what I want my magazine to mean by its purpose and references to different messages in society.

NEA Research Part 4 - Media Language and Representation

NEA Research Part 4 - Media Language and Representation Introduction  For this task I need to research the media language elements used in magazines and how this constructs representations and appeal to their target audience. This will be important in understanding what makes an entertainment magazine a successful entertainment magazine. I will look at two texts including their front cover, contents page and double/single spread pages.  Task This is my link to my presentation: https://prezi.com/view/vKJNwrktaGgIfhINfmIz/ Conclusion Creating this post really helped me understand the key elements used in magazines including the front cover, contents page and double page spread. For example, I understand the use of text used and what that means by the representation. When it comes to relating this to my magazine I will use a similar camera shot like a mid shot or from the shoulder up shot as many entertainment magazines use this. This is because is because i...

NEA RESEARCH PART 3 - INTERTEXTUALITY RESEARCH

NEA RESEARCH PART 3 - INTERTEXTUALITY RESEARCH Introduction For this post I will be looking into intertextuality in two media products within my brief. This will hopefully help my creative process in adding intertextuality into my final product.  Copy and paste the link to see my research https://prezi.com/view/yF4ncwz3npJh8alEfZQV/ Conclusion  Overall, I never thought print media would show intertextuality as much as I thought it would. This is because in videos and films intertextuality is clearly shown a lot. As it was less clear in magazines I had to make some assumption references to intertextuality. On the other hand, it was very interesting with what I found as it referred as lot to social issues and context. This will help me with being more personal and clever with my front cover by the choice of mise en scene, text and other codes and conventions. For example, using a famous movie quote as my headline or subheading, choice of colour or the choice of ...
